TLC Quilter’s Guild
General Meeting
October 14, 2010
President Sue Peterson called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Members and guests were welcomed.
President’s Announcements:
Members were reminded to not visit once the meeting begins.
In Pat Maxcy, Philanthropy’s absence, Sue announced that Jessie Hahn will collect the philanthropy quilts during the break. Judi
Umbro will be presented with a friendship quilt as she is undergoing cancer surgery and chemotherapy treatments shortly.
Members were encouraged to send Judi cards and good wishes. More hearts need to be made for future quilts and one more
soldier’s quilt needs to be bound. Small quilts and $10 toys will be presented to the Covina Fire Department at the November
meeting.
Agendas and minutes are available to the membership on the back table for all general meetings.
A field trip to the Hoffman factory on a Saturday in February is being planned. Members will carpool to Mission Viego and JoAnne
Turnbull will coordinate the event.
Sue requested a motion be made to increase the Philanthropy Fund to $400 per year. Bonnie Lawry moved and Jeanne Bury
seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
Secret Pals will be announced during the November Guild meeting.
A volunteer is needed to store the audio equipment between meetings.
October 23 is the deadline for the November newsletter.
Board Announcements:
Katie Jimenez, Parliamentarian announced four officer vacancies for the 2011 year. Members volunteered for the following
positions:
V.P. Membership – Beverly Gallatin and Charlotte Lind
Historian – Barbara Kachic and Toni Pici
The office of Secretary and Hospitality remain open. Members were asked to contact Katie or Sue if they are interested in filling
these positions.
Committee Reports:
Jessie Hahn, Opportunity Quilt asked members to pick up the remaining Opportunity Quilt tickets.
Irene Parker, Quilt Mom displayed the TLC Opportunity Quilt and asked for volunteers to sell tickets at Ginger’s on Friday October
22 and at the Covina Thunderfest on Saturday October 23. Members volunteered.
Sheena Caughey, Hospitality announced last year’s piano player will again be playing for the holiday party. Members may buy
tickets for the dinner during the break - $8 for members and $12 for guests.
Karen Pinkelman, Holiday Party Raffle reminded members that the November meeting is the last time she can accept items for the
raffle.
Drawings:
JoAnne Turnbull, Swap A Block/Charm Squares conducted the fat quarter drawing of 15 entries. Dede De Stepheno won. In Judi
Umbro’s absence JoAnne drew the winning name for the 10 Blocks of the Month. Rita Pavin won.
The winners of two gift certificates from Cozy Cottage and Sew and Sew were announced.
Gaynell Frack, Door Prizes drew the winner’s names for the four door prizes. During the break $1 tickets can be purchased for
the Gift Basket.
Brenda Wakeland, 50/50 will be selling tickets during the break also.
Anne Sonner and Sandra Ramirez, Show and Tell displayed the members’ quilts.
BREAK
In Lydia Gonzalez’s absence, Sue Peterson introduced the evening’s speaker, Lyn Brown.
The Gift Basket and two $11 Split the Pot prize winners were drawn.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

TLC Quilter’s Guild
General Meeting
September 9, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 6:20 pm by President Sue Peterson. Members and guests were welcomed.
President’s Announcements:
Agendas are available to the membership on the back table for all general meetings.
The Arcadia Guild is selling opportunity tickets for their quilt during the break. Next month TLC will sell tickets for the antique
opportunity quilt at the Arcadia Guild meeting.
Members who receive their newsletter by regular mail have not received their copies this month as there was a delay at the
printers. There were errors in the e-mailed version that are being addressed.
A bolt of batting has been purchased for the philanthropy quilts. Members were invited to come next month with an idea of how
much batting they will need for the philanthropy quilts they are working on and the appropriate amount of batting will be cut.
The following are ideas from the Suggestion Box submitted by members:
•Could the guild have workshops on days other than Saturdays? Many members indicated that Thursdays would be a good
alternative day.
How about a scrap swap? The members were not interested.
•How about a “Sew What” table where members bring sewing supplies they don’t need to sell cheap? Idea will be discussed
again later, contingent upon a volunteer to chair the project.
•A Swap Meet on alternative years to the Quilt Show was suggested. Idea to be discussed at a further time.
•In order to save money a suggestion was made to publish the newsletter every-other month. The membership voted no.
Lydia Gonzalez, V.P. Programs reminded members of the two workshops this month and next. Saturday, September 11 Ann Turley
will present a free workshop from 9:00 – 1:30 at the Joslyn Center in Covina. October 16 Lyn Brown is giving her workshop
“Concordia Blues”. It will be held at the Methodist Church at a cost of $25. Members were encouraged to sign up for both
activities.
Committee Reports:
Sheena Caughey, Hospitality thanked everyone for participating in the August Pot Luck. The food and table settings were
outstanding. A caterer is set for the Christmas Dinner and the scouts will be asked to serve again. Last year’s piano player will
also be invited to play again during dinner.
Pat Maxcy, Philanthropy thanked the members who assembled quilts at the Saturday workshop held at Ginger’s. Next year all
philanthropy workshops will be on Wednesdays. Fifteen pillowcases were completed and JoAnne Turnbull completed 10
pillowcase kits to be picked up by volunteers tonight. Two additional quilts need binding and two pinwheel pre-assembled kits are
available. Small quilts and $10 toys are needed to present to the Covina Fire Department at the November meeting.
Marilyn Johnson, Quilt show 2012 asked members to sign up if they are willing to help. The dates of the show are May 5 and 6,
2012 at the Covina Woman’s Club.
Drawings:
Judi Umbro, Block of the Month drew the winning name for 16 sailboat blocks. Rita Pavin won the blocks.
JoAnne Turnbull, Swap A Block/Charm Squares conducted the fat quarter drawing of 11 entries. Judy Voudouris won. Next
month the subject is “leaves”.
Bonnie Landsberg/Karen Pinkelman, Christmas Boutique Chairs reminded members that they are collecting quilting themed items
for the Christmas Dinner tonight through the November meeting. All members who donate will receive free raffle tickets.
Members were reminded to secure their names to the donations.
Board Reports:
Mary Bowman, VP Membership announced that 60 members, 3 visitors, 2 new members and 2 renewing members were present.
$21.52 was collected for the milk fund.
The winners of two gift certificates from Cozy Cottage and Sew and Sew were announced.

It was announced that free fabric was available at Pat Maxcy’s table for Philanthropy quilts or dresses.
Betty Bethke told members that she would be starting a new quilting class on September 28 at the Joslyn Senior Center in Covina
from 1:00 – 3:00.
BREAK
On September 23 there will be a Board meeting at starting at 6:30 p.m. The place will be announced at a later date.
Bonnie Landsberg, Split the Pot drew the names of two $10 winners.
Lydia Gonzales, VP Programs introduced and gave instructions regarding the four Round Robin activities: Jessie Hahn, hand
appliqué; Sue Peterson, English piecing; Katie Jimenez, hand embroidery; and Lydia Gonzales, hand quilting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 pm.

Board Meeting
January 6, 2011
Members present: Judy Campbell, Bev Gallatin, Lydia Gonzalez, Dottie Grinstead, Charlotte Lind, and Sue Peterson.
Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m.
President’s Report: Sue turned the meeting over to the treasurer, Judy Campbell, who presented the 2011 Budget.
Treasurer’s Report: Several items were presented for Board consideration.
1. Increase an increase to Libby for set-up for general meetings.

Discussion: Present amount: $400/year. Proposed amount: $500/year

2. Philanthropy raised from $400 to $500

Transfer $151.64 from newsletter to postage
$800 yearly to Franchise Tax Board to be included in the budget under “Fees”
Opportunity Basket: budget $500 income rather than $900 income.
Christmas Drawing: budget $750 income rather then $1000.
Motion to accept changes in the budget.
