TLC Quilters Guild
General Meeting
December 10, 2009


The meeting was called to order at 6:08 pm by President Maxine Smith.   Members and guests were welcomed.

President’s Announcements:

The minutes from the November 12, 2009 meeting were posted for approval.

The Treasurer’s Report was posted and filed for audit.

Libby Walters was thanked for setting up and taking down the tables and chairs for TLC General meetings.  She was presented
with a Holiday bonus for her good work.

Maxine announced that $80 worth of Opportunity tickets were sold at the Whittier Guild meeting in November.

Eleven TLC members attended and enjoyed the Ricky Tims Seminar.  The guild was presented with instructional Ricky Tims’ DVDs
for the TLC Library in appreciation for being a sponsor.

The Annual Holiday Dinner was begun.

At 7:00 pm the meeting was resumed with the Installation of Officers for 2010.  Sandra Ramirez announced the slate of officers:

President:  Sue Peterson
VP Programs:  Lidia Gonzales
VPs Membership:  Mary Bowman and Janice Wong
Treasurer:  Judy Campbell
Secretary:  Vera Drino

There being no nominations from the floor, Jessie Hahn moved that the slate of officers be accepted as presented and Judi
Umbro seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Maxine Smith, outgoing President, thanked the entire membership for their cooperative spirit and for making her tenure a good
experience.

Ann Turley installed the newly elected officers.  Sue Peterson, President, thanked the membership for their support and
encouraged all members to participate in the coming year.

Joanne Turnbull, Swap-A-Block/Charm Squares, announced 11 red and red and white fat quarters had been turned in and were
won by Barbara Kachic.

Roberta Taylor asked members to read the TLC Newsletter to review the contest guidelines if participating in the Challenge Quilt.

The drawing of approximately 130 holiday raffle prizes was begun.  As reported by Karen Pinkelman, it was estimated that $950 was
earned from the drawing.

Secret Pals were revealed and a request was made for a new Secret Pal Chair to volunteer for the coming year.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm.

January 14, 2010


The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by President Sue Peterson.   Members and guest were welcomed.

President’s Announcements:

Positions recently filled since the newsletter was published are as follows:

Britta Wells’ quilt, bequeathed to the guild, is being appraised at the Road to California Show.  It will take four to six weeks to get
the results of the appraisal.  The guild would like to be able to advertise the quilt as vintage.  The quilt is completely handmade
and was displayed to the membership.  It is believed that the quilt is over 100 years old.  A question was presented regarding giving
the quilt to a museum.  Discussion followed.  It was moved and seconded that Britta’s quilt be used as our 2011 Opportunity Quilt.  
The motion passed.  The quilt will be displayed at our 2010 Quilt Show to start the raffle off.

Judy Campbell, Treasurer presented the new budget for 2010 to the membership.  Members were given copies of the budget and
the Income and Projected Expenses columns were explained.  Discussion followed.  It was moved and seconded that the 2020
Budget be approved.  The motion passed.

Committee Reports:

Lydia Gonzalez, VP Programs and Workshops announced the following programs and workshops:

February 11 – Raylene’s Traveling Quilt Shop and Trunk Show “Less Than Traditional Quilting”

February 13 – Workshop with Raylene

March 11 – Cindy Rinne, Fiber Artist, “Solitude – Where Ideas Begin”

March 13 – Workshop: “Plants, Seeds and Roots”

April 8th – Ruth Anna Abigale – No Workshop

Judi Umbro, Block of the Month announced that the Fons and Porter magazine will be arriving in approximately two weeks.  There
were only three paper piecing blocks entered this month.  Next month’s block will be a scrap quilt block with one flat black
piece.  Members were encouraged to participate.  One person will win all blocks submitted.

Ann Turley, Whisper Challenge reminded participants to pass their quilt on the January person.  The quilt challenge will be
completed in April and displayed at the Quilt Show.

Roberta Taylor, Challenge Quilt Chair reminded members that all submitted quilts must be no larger than 160” in circumference
and must use a piece of blue material along with the challenge fabric.  The packets to participate are $4.00 and the project is due
April 30.  There will be gift certificates from quilt stores as prizes.  Samples of previous challenges were shown.

Pat Maxey, Philanthropy informed the members that 172 quilts were given to charities from the TLC guild.  For those starting new
quilts, she has the required dimensions requested from the different philanthropies.  Thank you key chains were presented to
Marie Murphy for sewing “We Salute You” on the soldier quilt presentation pillowcases and to Judy Campbell for donating large
amounts of batting.  A storyboard with pictures of recipients who received the quilts is available to view at break.  Quilt labels are
also available for pickup from.  Fabric stores are being contacted for possible help in putting together quilts for the people of
Haiti with our guild.

Laura McWilliams Co-chair Quilt Show reminded members that she needs lots of volunteers.  Katie Jimenez is in charge of the
volunteers the day of the show.  It would be appreciated if members e-mail Katie or Laura to volunteer.  If members are interested
in quilting professionally, please contact Laura and she will make a list for interested members who would like to use their
services.  Instructions on how to enter a quilt in the TLC show will be in the February newsletter.

Paula Wright, Secret Pals asked members who wish to participate to fill in a questionnaire and submit it to her at the break.
Participants will be paired by the end of the meeting for distribution.  It is suggested that something small be given to secret pals
every month.

JoAnne Turnbull, Swap A Block/Charm Squares conducted the plaid fat quarter drawing.

Mary Bowman, VP Membership announced that 60 members were present; $14 was collected for the milk fund; and that a former
member had rejoined.  Sue reminded members to send in their money to renew their membership in order to appear in the roster.

Donna Long, Special Events reminded the ten members who have not picked up their Opportunity tickets to please see her at
break.

Vera Drino, Secretary  announced the minutes from the December 10, 2009 meeting are posted on the web site and on the wall
for approval.

BREAK

Two gift certificates from Cozy Cottage were drawn.

Nancy Meyers, Door Prizes/Split the Pot/Gift Baskets raffled six door prizes, two $15 Split the Pot prizes and one Opportunity
Basket.

Sue Peterson reminded members to always state their name before speaking to the guild.

It was announced that members may sell any quilting related item at the Country Store at the Quilt Show and either split the
price or donate all proceeds to the guild.

Betty Bethke is teaching a quilting class at the Covina Senior Center on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 for ten weeks starting
January 27.  The cost is $35 and everyone is invited to come.
